RARE - I really hate to use that word when it comes to anything we don't know the actual starting mintage of. And if we do have some sort of documentation that says 100 were minted. Ok cool. Were they all handed out to 100 different players. Were 50 handed out and 50 sent back to the mint and melted. Leaving now 50 available to collectors. To many variables. And then you throw in the mix if there are 50 left in existence then how many serious California casino silver collectors are there. Lets say 30 of us. That makes it almost an average of 2 per collector. So now the word rare I don't think comes into play. Very hard to find, yes.
But try to find one of these. Next to impossible and if someone has two its most likely they don't want to let go unless they can trade for another in the series they need. Dollar value, great question. Years ago I was at an antique store and the guy had a hand full of them. I bought a couple I needed and left the others. Posted a note asking if anyone needed any and I would swing in the next weekend and pick up some. I had bought mine for asking price of $35. each. I had gotten one request from a collector to pick up a couple they needed. The seller had raised his asking price to $50 each. I told the other collector about this and he now passed thinking $50 was to much. I often wonder if he ever found the ones he passed on and if now he would pay the $50 each. Full circle, I wish I had just bought them all.
Long story but true.
