I was just a wee lad of around 11 years of age when I started collecting coins. I don't know why but as all coin collectors start out I to collected pennies. I soon graduated to silver coins. Half dollars to be exact. I could read them without a magnifier in hand. I to this day collect half dollars.
It was late in 1994 when we as a family were staying at a cabin in Truckee, Ca. Not far from Reno. We took the kids to Boomtown in Verdi to play in the arcade. It so happened next to the arcade entrance was the first silver strike machine I had ever laid eyes on. And as a silver coin collector I thought this was very cool, a casino token made of actual silver. Had the token been made of anything but silver I am sure I would have passed on playing it. As fate would have it I put in a $20 bill. And for something like $23 I had won 3 of these beauties. I played out the rest of my money and kicked myself for not walking away with the extra $7. lol.
I played for the silver even though it was worth much less then the face value of $10.
And the rest is history. I could not then and still to this day I can not get enough of the little silver pieces of art.
I enjoy buying, selling and trading.
Heck I enjoy it so much I even wrote a book on the other side of casino silver tokens. The book is on the silver tokens casinos came out with long before silver strikes. Denominations from $1.00 to over $100 all made of sterling or .999 silver.
