Player Island was a double barge casino resort located on the east side of the I-10 bridge in Lake Charles, LA. It consisted of two Casinos on separate barges with two different casino licenses. One was called Player Casino and the other was the Star Casino. They had an attached hotel on shore and an additional barge in the center for the shared restaurant buffet, amenities & gift shop. It was one of my favorite casino resorts to visit. I played in both casinos on numerous occasions and really enjoyed the place. The strikes were only in play for a short time and I did not win very many of them and only have a total of four in my collection from both Star & Players today. At one time a had complete sets but traded them away. I always thought I would be able to get more but such was not the case. They did not sell the strikes out of the cage. Louisiana Gaming laws would not allow it. They had to be won. I tried to get them out of the cage for months with no results. After the merger with Harrah's the strikes were never seen again. Some time after a merger with Harrah's the resort was destroyed by one of the Hurricanes that hit the area. The barges sunk and every thing was a total loss. The hotel was closed and torn down and the licenses were sold off by Harrah's to competitors who build the new Hotel/Casinos across the lake to the south. The only casino left off I-10 in Lake Charles is the Isle of Capri and it is on the West side of the bridge and it never had strikes and neither do the two casinos on the south side of the Lake.
