I usually don’t get involved in these types of conversations but I though my opinion might be helpful. First off, I am a member of both the Chip Club and a newer member of the Strike Club. It seems to me that most of these comments are drawing lines in the sand. There are “chippers” and “strikers” yes, but we all collect casino memorabilia, and it’s obvious that there is passion here. As I see it, we are no different, the clubs should support each other and be one and the same. The past is exactly that, the past. Both clubs have been losing older members due to their unfortunate passing. It’s not a competition. Let’s quit talking about these people like thy are only membership numbers and have some respect. It’s arguments/disagreements like this one that make the clubs look bad and will ultimately drive members away and keep new ones from coming in to either club. One of the reasons that I joined the chip club and have stayed a member is the great and friendly people that I have met. I go to the Four Queens and play for strikes every year. The majority of my collection are the newer colored strikes. I didn’t know how they were made until now, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love the coins I have collected or have any less appreciation for the process in which they are made or the people that help get them made. Can’t everyone take a step back and see that this is all counter productive? Why not end this nonsense today? I joined the chip club first and through it, I discovered the strike club. I haven’t been to the Strike tournament yet, but I only come to Vegas once a year and would love to have part of that trip include some strike activities as well. Could it be that all this animosity is only kept alive by a few people? There is no “us” vs “them”. I’m considered one of the younger members. I’m still in my 30s. I will be one of the people helping these clubs continue on. Going forward, let’s join forces here and focus on why people love this hobby, the history of it all and the friends that we make. I know I’m just one person, but this is how I feel about the all this, I’d be willing to bet that there are many others that feel the exact same way.
