Before 1998, the mint was issuing $10 silver strikes with centers that were around 0.65 troy ounces of .999 Fine Silver.
They were marking .999 Fine (Pure) Silver on the rim.
A Silver Strike original member who wrote a price guide in 1998, I can't remember his name now, requested that the mints change the marking to actually be on the center of the strike which was the .999 fine silver.
From then on, the $10 silver strikes have been marked on the silver center.
