I utilize an analogous process but do not clean the strikes. The X43.6mm holder is the best for me as I can display and store strikes with drawers (pictured) and tubes (not pictured). I am going to adopt the stripe method suggested by you and John as I currently just remember which strikes are red and blue caps. I place the red and blue cap holders in casino strike racks for convenience and storage (pictured).

I find that the collecting process (buying, cataloging, etc.) is almost as much fun as formulating and executing the plan to win red cap strikes after an issue of a new series.
