Hello,
Every Silver Strike has 3 values. The first one is the face value which is easy to know just by looking at the strike. The second value is the scrap value. This is changed everyday based on the amount of silver in whatever strike you have. A basic rule of thumb (not precise) for the $10 strikes that if the the .999 is outside on the rim it has .6 of a ounce and if it marked on the inside it has .5 of a ounce. Strikes that are not marked are clad with a few exceptions (Hard Rock being one of them). Other strikes have different amounts of silver. Go to Kitco.com to see what silver is priced at for the day (this changes minute by minute). Dealers usually pay $1-$2 less than that per oz. The third and final (and the hardest to determine) is the collector value. The buyer thinks the value is near worthless (but still wants the strike) and the seller thinks the strike is priceless. Book values are not always accurate and are just a guide. Just because someone sold there $200 strike for $250.00 doesn't mean I want to sell mine for that price. It all boils down to one thing, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
I'm sure someone else in the club may have something to add.
