Re: The 6oz $300 stike is it still justified? -YES

I think the answer at today's silver prices is still yes. Keep in mind, when the original $200's were released. silver was only $4-5 per ounce. So, 12*$5/oz = $60 silver for a $200 face value. So the silver was about 30% of the face value. At $20 per ounce silver, the current 6 ounce $300 is about 40%. So, still a better deal than when the $200 program started.

Also, keep in mind the spot price you see is for large industrial users, in ingot form. So, if silver is $20 per ounce, Sunshine Mint pays a little over that for ingots. Then they have to be rolled and stamped into the blanks for the $300. I don't know the cost of the blank, but I would say it's at least 10% over spot. Add to that the cost of the artwork, the mold, and the colorizing plus the cost of the air-tite and the felt box. I am just guessing, but I wouldn't be surprised if that adds about $30 over spot silver to the price of the $300.

So, yes I would love to see the $300 have 12 ounces of silver. But I'd rather have a $300 with 6 ounces of silver than no $300. I think allowing the casinos a little margin keeps the program alive.
