The only problem is that the copper would cost more to refine than what you would get out unless you were refining hundreds of ounces. But, you are correct that there is some added value for copper. My refiner usually asks $50 to do second metal which in the case of gold, silver and platinum is always worthwhile. I have never melted coins, so I'll have to ask him next time I see him what happens to the copper and zinc.
