This is my method as well. The Q-tip works perfectly. Be sure to rinse the coin before you put it back into the plastic.

I also have used SOFT polishing cloths that I had that were just for silver. They work on large surfaces, but the detail of the token stays tarnished.

NEVER NEVER USE A WIRE BRUSH on SILVER. It is Soft and the coin will totally be RUINED

Just to add that, because we all know someone who didn't know that and ruined a favorite coin.
