Keep in mind there are a heck of a lot more chippers than strikers, so the 4Q has to be political, they are in a tough spot. If they are viewed by the CCGTCC as putting on a conflicting event, yeah the strikers may be happy, but the chippers probably won't and the 4Q could suffer more by alienating the larger group. I think the 4Q made the only choice they could, given the situation, and as a result the CCGTCC probably loses some striker attendance because the strikers would rather go to a SS tourney if they could only pick one.
How many attended the SS Tourney versus attended the SS Club banquet at the convention? That can give you an idea of which is the priority for strikers. If you can show the CCGTCC that those people at the tourney don't attend the convention anyway, then it might not be as much of an issue to them, and may actually get some more strikers to attend the convention if they soften their stance.
I'm assuming from reading your post that the 4Q bowed to CCGTCC pressure (or perceived pressure) to not hold the tourney during the convention. If that's NOT what happened, and the CCGTCC could care less when the SS tourney is, then yes it's probably better for both the 4Q and CCGTCC to hold the events at the same time and both would probably benefit.
I have not been to a tourney or a convention, I arrived in Las Vegas a day late last June for the tourney and left the day the convention began, that was the closest I got. If I had to pick one over the other, I would pick the tourney based on what I've heard from strikers who have a blast at the tourney.
