Dan - Who did you deal with at the Mint ? My contact has been Josh Earl and he has not taken anything off for Gold Plating, he did however ask me to remove the stickers from any $2000 that have them as it takes time to try to remove them frim the melting pot. Also you mention a lady (what was her name) said the plating or stickers messed up their machines, I can't figure this out because they don't go thru any machine.
Let know what the Ladys name is as I will be talking with Josh again next week and will mention what you said to him and see if things have changed since I first delt with the mint.
