Re: Quick Check if Plated
In Response To: Quick Check if Plated ()

Thank you for the continued assitance. grin

As I'm currently awaiting a response from the seller of these tokens, I am reluctant to mark them in case I need to return them.

I have a set of digital scales, and each token weighs 38 grams (I'm not sure what that equals in ounces exactly). My scales don't go to a decimal point, though.

There does not appear to me to be any signs of oxidisation, though a few of the reasons I began to suspect they were plated is because the surface area on them has a few small air bubbles, and the sides have what I would describe as wave patterns (similar to what you would see in a thick coat of paint, is probably the best way I can describe it - I'm not hip to any technical terms that may apply!).

As may be obvious, I'm a little new to purchasing silver and coins, but I have bought a few and I've never seen any that look like these do in terms of what I have described above. The outer edges also have chinks in them, but they looked 'filled in' - more fluid and smoother than they should, to me.

Hope that makes sense!
