Don't care who said what, or who "discovered" the bare strike. It was colorized at some point.
zoom in on the strike in the blue capsule. it still has color on it at. Im sure you have a iPhone zoom in. You can see the color left behind. Long time Numismatist and collector. The surface is so dehydrated that it was obviously dipped in acetone, or a diluted coin dip.

No need to dip these modern strikes the color eventually just bubbles and falls off.
