Yes, "A carnival with more than one attraction will bring more people than a carnival with just a Ferris wheel". However 2 carnivals on different sides of town scheduled for the same day will show a decrease in business for both of them as they draw people away from the other.
Prior to my life collecting casino memorabelia, I was a long time Sports Card Dealer. I have seen first hand what happens when a promoter schedules a show on the same weekend as another one. Both shows suffer as most people choose not to attend both.
Now I am NOT against a slot tournament, in fact I think that would be a great thing to advertise for not only Strikers, but the rest of the collectors as well.
I am also not opposed to people playing at casinos other than the host hotel. As a poker Player for years I had very little play at either the Tropicana or the Riv as they had no poker room to speak of.
What I am however opposed to is having a tournament on the same days or even the same hours as the scheduled show and even more importantly the potential for lost room bookings due to any special rate deals made with another casino.
The only thing I want out of this whole situation is to make sure that the club does not lose room nights because another club is promoting staying somewhere else. Now I am NOT saying that is happening, I am saying I want to do everything I can to avoid that from potentially happening.
The unfortunate situation we face is that the fewer rooms the books under its room block, the worse position we are for negotiating next years room rates which impacts all of us, even non members.
Thanks again,
Doug
