I'm sure most of us could care less about Richard's methods but I do have a suggestion.

Place the strike back in the hopper. Not a simple task fishing it back up the slot but if you have any trouble I'm sure security will be available to provide any help you would require. A small light on a wand may provide some illumination while working in the slot.
