Yes, we got scammed....the ebay request for verification of our acct was a good phony with the hpps/ on the form which should show a secure site but most likely was not....the interesting part of it all was they called our phone company and requested call forwarding to a voice mailbox. In doing so all of our calls went to the thief....here is a place I will begin with...""the phone company""... just did that change without calling us about it or having any questions for them to keep our phone line secure...they said someone with my husband's name called in that morning and requested it....the phone company needs to know they must be more secure now and not just do something because someone says they are me and makes the change without calling us and checking if we did want that change made!!! After we told them it was not us, they put our line back where it was before....minutes later our credit card company called and said lots of activity was going on with the acct and the party they spoke to earlier were not able to answer many of their questions.... like the wife's name...which threw up a flag for the credit card company so they called us again and reached the real owners of the card...we were told they ran up pmts of 5000.00 plus...wanted items shipped to a Florida address which was not our address,so again another flag went up for them.... so we canceled the card right away and will not be held responsible for thoughs pmts...they gave us the three phone numbers to credit report places to flag them of this fraud going on now.We called the Sheriff's office and made the report to them. Emailed paypal and made a report to them and closed that acct....they are now looking into the whole matter.Of course I notifed other bank accts I had and had a new password given to them for any withdrawls now made from yesturday's date onward...contacted other credit cards about this matter, no activity going on on thoses accts, and was told not to worry now that I notifed the credit report places of the problems for they are now alerted and will not allow loans or matters like that to go through. I believe we nipped it quickly and have good leads for the police to follow.... So it has been scary and yet a lesson well learned. And I want to tell you when I had auctions going on, and was told my access to ebay would be limited or canceled unless I filled out the verification request, of couse I did so....next time I will contact ebay or whoever before filling out any information again....But I did want to share with all of you this matter in case you too receive any requests to do the same thing....and I do not want to see anyone else get scammed as we did and take the warning to heart...I also want to thank all of you who have emailed me about getting the same emails, and concern about us having this problem...nice to know your fellow collector's support you in times of trouble..I appreicate all the concern by all who emailed me on scam...thanks again Christine F.
