HOW IT ALL STARTED

After reading the threads on Strike Point I contacted a dear friend and the first President of the Silver Strikers Club, Marylou Waterbury, to double check my memory as both of us were at the first meeting. I forgot to ask her whos idea it was to start the club, but we can go into that later....A meeting room was graciously provided by CC & GTCC during the 1999 convention. Archie Black set up the room after Marylou assured him she could get 25 or so people to attend. The meeting was held on June 17th with about 45 plus people attending (people were coming and going throughout the meeting). At the end of the meeting only 40 people had signed the list and when the convention closed the list had grown to 63 people. It was decided to hold the Charter Member signup list open until 15 Aug but because of the greater than expected interest they decided to close the list on 31 July. As Jack Haddock stated the total number of signups was at 147. Thus there are 147 Charter Members.
I agree with Dan Hanagriff, it’s time to put all this in the newsletter. The above should be expanded to include what was discussed, how the board was formed, what took place for the first couple years plus a list of all the charter members. But, before anyone jumps into this the archives should be checked as it may all be in there. All we need now is a volunteer to do it.
