Hi Lloyd,
You're in a good location for strike runs at the MGM. First check at the cage at the MGM and you might get Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and EFX.
The Hotel San Remo across the street has their Millennium strike in their one machine. Tropicana pulled their machine a couple years ago - not sure if they sell any at the cage.
I always have a strike handy when I go in any casino with a strike machine. Sometimes the machines aren't easy to find and if you show the strike to a change person, waitress, etc. and ask where the "Souvenior Coin Machine" is that might save you some time. I used to ask where the silver strike machine is and the person didn't seem to know what I was talking about.
I also use a small camera bag (no camera inside) that has dividers in it to carry my strikes in -seems to work well for me.
Across the street is NY NY and they have their Manhattan Express, Miss Liberty, 4th Anniv., etc.in one machine and their Babe Ruth series in another. Also they will exchange any duplicates at the main cashier for any you need to complete your sets.
On the other corner is the Excalibur - check at the main cashier if you need any from there - they will sell at face value.
Take the monorail to the Luxor - Many different designs both Egyptian and patriotic in different machines.
Next to the Luxor is Mandalay Bay. All the new designs should be in the machine there.
At the back of the MGM is a monorail you can take to Ballys for their patriotic series. There is a hallway from Ballys to Paris you can take to get to Paris for the strikes there both patriotic and French themed (Eiffel Tower, Etc.)
Next to Paris is Aladdin which has seven different strikes and when I was there a couple years ago they would trade at the main cage.
Across the street from Ballys is the Barbary Coast which has their patriotic strikes in one machine near the back of the casino.
Take the free shuttle bus from Barbary Coast to get to either Gold Coast or The Orleans. Nice strikes at both locations.
Also not to far from Barbary Coast is Caesars, Treasure Island, The Venetian, Bellagio, and the Mirage.
Further up the Strip is the Frontier, Slots-A-Fun, Westward Ho, Sahara, and Stratosphere.
I took the local bus #301 or #302 from the Strip to get downtown and back - not a bad deal at $2 each way.
Everything is walking distance downtown. If you need any from Fitzgeralds, Fremont, or Four Queens check at the main cashier (No machines but 4Qs is supposed to be putting their's back in sometime in the future). The Horseshoe and Main Street Station have both pulled their machines recently - not sure if they sell strikes at the main cashier or not.
Golden Nugget has two patriotic strikes in their machine. Golden Gate has a nice six-strike series in their machine. Across the street Las Vegas Club has a five-strike Winter Events series in their two machines (they may be putting in the next five strikes in the machines soon). Next to the LV Club is California - they have a new zodiac series (12 strikes!) but there will probably be older strikes mixed in and they will not trade - either keep or cash in. They also have a Hawaiian Islands series in another machine.
The Plaza has a three-strike patriotic series and the blue case Twin Towers(good luck on it -only one per hopper fill). They still had a few of the Union Plaza Hollywood Classics at the main cashier for sale and a few from their earlier series from a couple years ago when I checked in early July.
About a block away is The El Cortez. A number of different nice looking strikes in their machine. Was able to trade strikes there last year.
Good luck on hitting the machines at the right time. I have put $60 in a machine (Bellagio) and got no strikes. Other times I had a six-strike winner on one spin at Luxor and got six strikes for $25 at Slots-A-Fun (complete 2002 set and two different dups for trading).
Of course if you're flying in there's a few machines at McCarran Airport with the new strikes in them. I found it's better to try for those when you get back to the the airport to return home.
Above all - Have a great time!!
