eBay Auction Copyright Policy
In Response To: Re: buyers beware ()

John ---

For future reference and as a courtesy, it is appropriate to ask permission to use someone else's photo in an auction. Some may tell you "no" and that is their right, but others would allow it with possible stipulations like "this is a representative photo of my item" or "auction item is similar to the one pictured" be mentioned in the auction.

You'll note in the attached link below, eBay addresses the use of photos and text. eBay can and will shut down an auction if it is obvious that the image and/or text was taken from someone else's earlier auction. I have tested their stance in the past when someone ran a competing auction two days after I'd listed an item. That person copied both the text and photo from my auction. eBay shut the auction down and sent the thief a warning. If reported a second time that person would be suspended from eBay for 30 days. A third time leads to indefinite suspension.

You may not have meant to offend nor take advantage of anyone, but you can see that it can cause more problems for you than it's worth.
