Siver Strikes in A.C.! What are they? Atlantic City casinos have not issued any NEW CHIPS(LE or otherwise) since March 17th.... over three months ago.... when Tropicana issued a $25 chip to commemorate St. Patty's Day!
I'm told that the main reason A.C. casinos did away with silver strikes is because of the high maintenance factor of servicing the machines. With the high cost of labor to pick out shards of plastic cases that jammed the coin chutes and continually apologizing unhappy players hanging around for the mechanic to fix the machine or waiting for hopper fills, or payouts .... it just wasn't worth putting up with the inconveniences on busy summer weekends with crowded floors. Slot machines are king in A.C. The casinos are closing lounges and removing table games to put in more slots on valuable casino floor space. Casino revenue is measured by how much money is being generated per square foot of floor space. Silver strikes were not producing the revenue that other slot machines produce so it became a business decision to make in order to keep ones job. Produce revenue or you're out!
As for the lack of new chip issues.... New Jersey regulations require that A.C. casinos must account for all unsold chips periodically and file reports to the state of NJ .... which wants their cut on LE chip sales. The casinos simply don't want to put up with the burdensome accounting paperwork... which translates to more money expended in labor costs... which is why the occassional issuance of higher denomination LE's have taken the place of former $5 LE issues.
