How many of you remember your first strike? I was in Laughlin at the Riverside when I got mine. Later that day I met a man who was a member of your club (sorry but I don’t remember your name) and he told me a little about the selling and trading. I still have that first strike.
Through the years I have discovered this forum and Randy’s database. I’ve posted questions here and received prompt polite answers. I read the message board daily and haven’t been bothered by sifting through the chaff to find the wheat. As for the possibility of offending the visitors, I doubt it. Most boards have personal interchanges intermixed with the business at hand and that’s fine. In my opinion don’t change a thing, threads die of boredom and folks go back to whatever they were doing.
Each of you has your specialty when you collect, be it state, casino, theme, denomination, or whatever. My collection, which is rather small, is made up solely of strikes that I have personally won from a machine. I have never bought or traded for a strike, which is not to say that I never will, does that make me less of a collector? I have found this forum great for news on what casinos have machines in play and what new issues are being released. When I travel I try to include a casino visit and just knowing which ones have strike machines does influence my decision on which to visit. Personally I think it would be great if the slot managers of the casinos posted here to advise of their strike news only, you probably don’t need to be their venue for free advertising.
Most of my duplicates have been given as gifts and I have sold some on eBay. I don’t use Jackpot because I don’t want to sign up for another service, but I do look at their listings. I assume that those of you who buy regularly are proficient in searching the auctions but announcements on this board seem appropriate to me.
I might attend a club open house or convention if it was convenient and I expect that information to be posted on this board. I don’t find the need to join since this is a minor hobby for me but I enjoy lurking in the
background.
Just my two cents, for whatever its worth.
