First of all, I voted #4. I did that because I have always collected silver strikes because of the silver an well as the strike. I don't collect $1 casino tokens, but think it would be a great hobby. I don't collect casino chips, but love to look at them when I am going through auction sites. I quit collecting dimes, quarters, and half dollars when they went from silver to clad. I started collecting again when silver proof versions of those came out. I like the fact that there is some intrinsic value to what I am buying. For that reason, I have no problem paying more than $10 face. And, i love the feel (technically density) of gold and silver and platinum metal objects.
Second, even if they switched to HSP tomorrow, there are thousands of SILVER strikes out there for stubborn collectors like me to swap, trade, sell etc. Since nobody is recalling the old strikes, they will still be in the system.
Third, new collectors coming in might not care. If you never won a silver strike, just a HSP, you wouldn't know what you are missing. Case in point, how many folks miss the $20 gold coins??? I never owned one until two years ago, couldn't care less that the government pulled them from circulation in the 30's, I wasn't even born then! But, after I started buying them, I could just imagine the collectors back then being told you can't have your shiny new gold, but boy do we have some nice smaller paper bills for currency.
I'll quit here, don't want to bore anyone, could go on forever about this one. I see HSP as a "clad dollar", I guess if the right strike hit my fancy, I'd play a strike machine. But I wouldn't have that same big smile every time that STRIKE lights up on the reel the way it is today. That smile would have to be reserved for hitting a "you won this item" on an ols strike on eBay.........
