Technically you're correct, but celebrating could be construed as continuing the celebration that started early in 2000 since the new millennium is still all around us.
I look at it as just a play on words.
Also, my guess is the guy who was playing the machine Monday with the stack of $100 bills is probably the one who notified the management of the "error".
