Re: Your, Holy Grail of strikes and
My Holy Grail isn't in my collection.
Not too long after I started getting serious about collecting these dam things, a guy from work who knew I was "gathering" them was in a pawn shop looking for a gun and called to tell me they had about 12 of "those things you're collecting." I had to pass by that way the next day anyhow so I stopped in. Sure enough, there were about a dozen $10 strikes under the glass counter so I had him get them out. Some of them were pretty rough. Broken cases, some tarnished, most (I thought all) commons. I offered face for all of them and he said, naw, $12. I declined, left and went on to the rest of my errands. On the way back home, I thot, well, what the heck. Even though I believed I had most if not all of them already, I figured they'd be good trade stock, and no ebay shipping costs! I stopped back by and picked them up.
To make a long story short, while logging them in, I discovered I had scored a Gold Country Pony Express G mint mark, a short run from 1997. It sold on ebay for $650 within 5 minutes of putting it up.
Needless to say, I spent the next two days hitting every pawn shop from Seattle down to Ft. Lewis, alas, to no avail! Oh well, it was too late, I had the bug BAD and all that money has since been redistributed to some of you guys!
So I guess you could say the Rush is my Holy Grail!
