I recently cashed in some 1950s proof sets for the silver value and kept the cent and nickel for my collection.

Just took out my two "American Wildlife Series" strikes and they are going to be traded for cash later today along with the last silver dollars that were kicking around in a drawer.

Strikes go on eBay next week. I'd still rather see them go to a collector than become melt.
