SS sellers/buyers read-1st class 3/4 inch thick

parcel U S Post Office RULE/RATE. When DELIVERY CONFIRMATION is included with the 1st class parcel.

The post office has a long standing rule(so I understand) that says basicly. When Delivery Confirmation is included WITH a 1st class parcel the 1st class parcel HAS to be at LEAST 3/4 of a inch thick. If less then 3/4 inch thick the parcel HAS to go priority mail. And any free Delivery Confirmation offer is voided. Delivery Confirmation will be charged with the priority rate parcel.

This will bring the cost to mail the parcel to $5.25. $4.60 + .65 = $5.25 thus setting up a possible postage due situation when the parcel with anything including silver strikes arrive at the buyers home.

Read the back of the Delivery Confirmation reciept. It says about the 3/4 inch rule. And gives the PO defination of a parcel.

In about the last month 1/2 I have gotten 6 silver strike parcels with postage due usually with $3.00 + due. But I didn't find out why till I started looking into why I was getting so many postage due parcels. When I had already payed the sellers requested shipping charges. Seems the PO has not been enforcing this rule. At least till the last postage rate increase. And most all of the sellers & buyers has not had to pay the priority rate. I also discovered that if a seller uses the home printed postal mailing form. Somehow the less than 3/4 inch parcel was more likely & able to slip though with out the postage change. But somewhere on down the line someone sometimes catches this mistake and changes the mailing rate to priority. THUS the postage due upon arrival. A lot of these parcels are still getting through with 1st class rate. So if you get a small parcel with Delevery Confirmation with postage due check the thickness and if it was changed to priority mail.

This was told to me by my local Post Office personal. As well as the big main area Post Office personal. They all showed me the special plate they have with a 3/4 inch thick slot in it. The parcel goes through it's priority. If it does not go through it's 1st class no guessing about thickness.

I do not agree with this PO rule but leave it up to "our" US Post Office to figure out a way to put it to us mailing "customers". This could get worse & expensive if the PO starts to really enforce this 3/4 inch rule.
