When is 1 Troy Lb. only 1/2 a Troy Lb.?...
I have discovered that there are two different weights to the largest coin of the hand-painted The Orleans coins! Although I am verifying my facts, I am under the impression that The Orleans advertised their largest award coin as a 1 Troy Lb. coin. However, only after receiving a second coin did I come to find out that there are in fact two different weights. It appears that one is the weight and thickness of a $200 Silver Strike (1 Troy Lb., while the second one is half the thickness, and presumably 1/2 Troy Lb. I have compared the thinner one to a Gold Coast coin that I have that is marked as 1/2 Troy Lb. and they are both equal in all dimensions.
Here is a picture of the two coins, arranged so that we can see the difference in thickness (they are separated by a piece of paper). Please note, both are the same in circumference. But I could fit two of the thinner ones into a single airtite! Any conjecture as to why there are two sizes?
Thanks,
Jim
