I have not seen the new $200 Scoast, but sometimes a rusty die will cause that effect you are describing. Remember; everything that is incused (or sunken) on the die will be raised on the finished token. Vice-versa; anything that is raised on the die will be sunken (incused) on the finished token. Either way, a non-smooth surface on the die will create irregularities on the finished product.
