correct and also consistent with the Board's position. Lisa is fully eligible for membership, as a Regular Member.
Everyone must keep in mind that just as Neal stated in the announcement, the Board has gone where no other Board has been before and it is most difficult to envision every eventuality.
However, lets suppose that you or I (for whatever reason) were faced with the same unfortunate expulsion notification that Mel received. Aside from the primary purpose of the notification would it really be appropriate for the Board to then solicit your Associate Member's continued membership, even though you are being kicked-out? Sure seems inappropriate to me.
If it was me, I think I would take exception to such a comment. I imagine I would also take exception to my Associate Members being contacted independently of my expulsion notice and being solicited for continued membership status for additional money and issuance of a new number. But of course these are matters that no Board has really been faced with before.
I think we also should keep in mind that, through no fault of her own, Lisa's "official" ties to the Club (as an Associate Member) were severed when the Regular Member's membership was withdrawn.
Although the Board welcomes and encourages eveyones membership, to have made this direct overture to Lisa would have been adding insult to injury. Not to mention the fact that membership is a two-way street. Lisa could have made an overture to continue membership, but no such contact was made. This was interpreted as silent resignation, and resolute acceptance of the stated action(s) of the Board in the notification letter.
This interpretation is somewhat borne out in Lisa's statement, "...I would not accept a table should one be offered, nor would I want to be a separate member of the club."
The Board feels that this entire situation is unfortunate, regretable and very disappointing. However, the Board also recognizes that, through no fault of its own, nor through no fault of the greater membership, we are all paying a consequence for someone elses actions.
The rules and requirements for membership are no different today than they were yesterday, or the day before, or even in years past. The Board encorages anyone and everyone who can abide by the Club's Constitution, By-Laws and Code of Ethics, to join the Club.
