I have acquired a couple others' partial collections in addition to my own – and have been buying 20 plus Strikes per week on eBay and Jackpot. I basically have all the $20s, $28s, $100s and $40s (except maybe 1 or 2). I have all the 10s except for a few rarities, new issues and a lot of the Copper Rims. I have all the $3 Tokens, and almost all the $2 tokens.
What I am missing are:
- About Half of the $7s
- About 25% of the $200s
- All of the 1 Pound Nevada Tokes (from Nevada Palace and Sierra Sids)
- About 70% of the Related Nevada Tokens
- Nine of the Nevada Holograms
My questions to fellow Strikers are:
A) Is this something that most of you would consider a positive -- something that might would help draw attention to the Club and the Hobby -- particularly given the IGT situation?
B) Has it ever been done before?
C) If I were to post a list of all of the Strikes I am missing, would other members be willing to sell me certain strikes (I assume the answer is Yes if it were someone's duplicate and it was the right price), but more importantly, for those Strikes which are in the $1,500 and up range (which I can't afford), would those of you who own these rarities be willing to Lend them (or Display them yoursleves alongside mine) for the period of the Display? In particular, I would love to hear the opinions of any members who have multiple high value $200s/1 Pounders to Display.
D) Are there any members who would like to team up and do this as a group? I have sent a request to D Hanagriff to see if he would be one of those interested (given his earlier post).
E) In the event that the owners of certain one-of-a-kind strikes were unwilling to Display them, would a 99% Complete Exhibit still be worth it from the perspective of potentially drawing in new collectors?
Thanks
