Spot silver price is the price of silver at that point in time. But remember, the silver will have to be assayed and that costs a few bucks. So my guess is that the price will have to reach near $20 before you want to start melting it down. However, you could take up lost wax jewelry making and melt it and use it yourself. And then sell the jewelry and maybe you would come out ahead. And maybe Norm would buy some.
