On 9/71999 I posted messages regarding a different question of Silver Strikes on these message boards.

All the recent questions regarding "Silver Strike", in my opinion, are EXTREMELY valid.
My original inquiry was regarding these strikes from Atlantic City
You will notice that there is NO .999 FINE SILVER inscription and NO 24K HGE inscription on them.
What about other tokens and medallions struck in .999 Fine Silver or .925 Silver (Sterling)?
I will reiterate my past experience at the 1993 convention where when I asked for "Silver Strikes" the MAJORITY of the dealers would bring out their $5 and $25 .999 Fine Silver and Sterling gaming tokens, and the Franklin Mint sets from 1967.
Appearently, to most chip dealers back then this was their defination of a "SILVER STRIKE".
The messages in 1999 only received replies from two people at that time. Appearently, there wasn't the concern then as there is now regarding the use of the term "SILVER STRIKE".
After all I would like to have seen what the answer would be to the question if posed back in 1993, "What is a Silver Strike?"
My thought back then was if it didn't contain a base metal that was made from solid silver then it was NOT a Silver Strike.
However, for today's collector of "SILVER STRIKES", my opinion (subject to change). is that a "SILVER STRIKE" token, is that which I consider a "SILVER PREMIUM GAMING TOKEN" from Anchor Gamings "SILVER STRIKE" Promotion.
The major question that I am left with is what would a collector call themself if they only collected the $5 and $25 .999 Fine Silver Gaming Tokens?
I think there can be an interesting discussion regarding "What is a Silver Strike" at the Convention!
Now for a defination of Token vs Medallion (Medal)
In my opinion (again), a "TOKEN" is that which is a piece resembling a coin issued for use which has a declared monitary value used for a specified purpose.
In my opinion (again), a "MEDALLION" (Medal) is that which is a piece of metal often resembling a coin and having a stamped design that is issued to commemorate a person or event or awarded for excellence or achievement having NO declared monitary value.
Having stated this, I find a quandry between what SOME "Silver Premium Gaming Tokens" issued outside Nevada should be PROPERLY termed. Such as... The Cruise Ship .999 Fine Silver HSP issues?
1. They contain no solid Silver base metal
2. They have NO monitary value struck on them
I've heard that the tokens sometimes have had different redemption values of either $7 or $10 and some of the Cruise Ship Tokens that did not have the HSP inscriptions had a value of $12.
So the question still remains to be asked "WHAT IS A SILVER STRIKE?"
