Your base question.....Is the competition "Strike of the Year" or "Silver Strike of the Year"? Although I will defer to others for a corrected answer, let me try. A while back a group of people got together and formed a Chapter Club under the CC>CC that they called the Silver Striker's. Soon afterwards, some of the Silver Striker's members decided to have an annual competition that paralleled the CC>CC's COTY and TOTY competitions, but theirs was to be called the "Silver Strike of the Year" (SSOTY) competition. In that first year the competition was run by the Silver Striker's membership and I do not know what the criteria was for candidate nomination.

At that same time the CC>CC had a vote going on (among several) as to whether or not the SSOTY competition should be enfolded into the CC>CC's existing COTY and TOTY competitions as a third category. The CC>CC membership vote was in favor of having the SSOTY competition be part of the COTY and TOTY competitions.

This year will mark the second SSOTY Award, and the first year that the CC>CC is running all three (COTY, TOTY and SSOTY). From very early-on, Archie Black (as the Board appointed COTY and TOTY Chairman (and then COTY, TOTY and SSOTY Chairman)) had deferred the determination of criteria to merit nomination to SSOTY voting/judging be entrusted to the entity that created the award in the first place, i.e., the Silver Striker's as voiced through the Chapter's Officers.

For a period of time there was some discussion and debate over what the appropriate criteria is, resulting in a determination being made that has applicability for this year's competition.
