The last time I stayed downtown, I walked from Fitz to El Cortez at 3 a.m. and there is quite a collection of unsavory people on the streets at that time, especially on 4th street near the pawn shops. Anywhere you go, downtown or on the strip, if its late and you look like an easy target, your going to have trouble. I did make my wife stay at the hotel because I didn't feel it was safe for her to go, but I'm 6'4" 260 and didn't feel I was going to have any problems. Vegas is a crappy place to be when your broke and all those tables and slots enticing you to play.
