amount of silver in a strike

I just exchanged several emails with an ebay seller who claims to also be a silver smelter and HE swears that he has personally melted down one of the .999 on rim strikes and that it weighed out at about 1.2 ounces. That ONLY a small amount of brass plating burned off and that he has also tested several others by scratching the brass rim and edge of the strikes and that the underlying metals tests out as silver. He says he will melt down the ones he has for sale if they don't bring full scrap price. I didn't know what else to tell him. I only know what I have learned from my association with the club for the last year or so. Do you think he was just greening me to try to get me to bid higher? Do youn think he was just angry that I would speak up about the silver content to him? I was just trying to be helpful. The auction number for the strike I was conversing about is ebay number 320023066991.
