Don,
Several years ago and right at 1 year. After Harrahs took over the Players & Star casinos. In Lake Charles, Louisiana. I went to the cage at Harrahs, and eventually ended up talking to the casino manager. The same casino manager who was in on the change over from Players & Star to Harrahs.
I asked him about buying any or all of the Players Casino and Star Casino silver strikes that he has in the casino vault. He told me that if I had come wanting to buy them 1 year ago when Harrahs took over. He would have gladly sold me ALL he had. When I asked how many he had? He said several boxes but didnot remember exactly how many. But, did remember having the $10's and $20's in the boxes.
However, he didnot have them any more. As the Louisiana Gaming Commision had ORDERED him to destroy or send back. Within so many days after the Harrrahs takeover. ALL the Players Casino and Star Casino chips, silver strikes, cards, tokens, etc.
I have also ran into this in Mississippi. After the casino has changed owners. As a Example:: In Vicksburg, Mississippi Harrahs had sold their casino there. I have been there several times (recently as last March 2006). Asking about past Harrahs strikes. And was told again that they had to get rid of them. And donot accept them, if someone trys to return any.
I sure missed out badly here. Due to my stupidy and lack of thinking or forsight. I am still trying to complete my collection with these higher $$$$ strikes.
And what makes it worse to me. I live ONLY 6 MILES from the Players---Star then Harrahs casino's. And went there MANY times after the first opening a of Players and then the take over/Buy out by Harrahs.
I thought that I had heard that this was the same thing in Nevada. I also assumed that since this was the case in several other gaming places. That this was the case in Nevada also. Looks like I am wrong for Nevada.
