Dan,

The reason I went with the clear cap was so you could see through the plastic after it was cleaned. The problem you had with the Rain-X was its a product that relies on a build up of the product to become effective, to repel the water. Without that build up, it doesn't work, and the problem with build up is the product eventually moves where you don't want it, your wipers, chrome, ect.. The Novus is more of a polishing compound with a little bit of wax, not a chemical-based cleaner like nail polish remover or WD-40. How does Crazy Glue work? It basically uses a chemical reaction to melt 2 pieces of plastic together. The Novus is more like toothpaste, a little rubbing and you wipe it off. I just used a terry cloth towel to rub it on and wipe it off, no water. If you have a micro-fiber towel it might work even better because its softer than a regular towel.

The only reason the cap I polished was like that was because I had about 10 of them in my pocket and they rub together when I walked from casino to casino. I, like you and many others, change them into new caps when I get home so I don't care what happens to them before that. If I win a red cap, it goes in a separate pocket and stays looking new, then it goes into its own plastic baggy to prevent scratches like that. I have never bought or won a colored cap that remotely resembles that clear cap I cleaned, so the outcome wont be so dramatic, but it does work. I've used this stuff for years on my pinball machine and have never noticed any kind of build-up or clouding on the plastic ramps.

Hope this helps,

Kevin
