The $5 Franklin pieces are Sterling - about 1.4 ounces on a mail scale. Or 612.5 grains - Divide that by 480 to convert to troy ounces - 1.276 troy weight times .925 (sterling) yields 1.18 troy ounces -
At 13.93 silver (as of this morning) each $5 has 1.18 pure troy ounces thus $16.437 value. You were right about the sterling (I omitted that) and off on the value. Considering that they melt at $16+ they should be a bargain considering additional collector's value also.
