Re: vegas rumors
In Response To: vegas rumors ()

Sarge,
I have read in several Las Vegas information magazines. The word from these is that Harrah's (which is next door) is looking to buy the Imperial Palace. And probally tear it down, as it is considered a out dated casino. And build something else on the property. This would give them a long frontage(except for the Barbary Coast) along Las Vegas Blvd. All the way to Flamingo Blvd.. Both casino's are not at present talking. To any one to but, each other. It is felt this will probally happen. Because the long time owner of the Imperal Palace. Died a while back and the heirs through the holding company would more likely be willing to sell. When the long time owner would not.
The New Frontier, has LONG been a prime choice to tear down. The main and maybe only reason that it hasn't already happened is that. The present owner has not been able to secure the large amount of money. It would take to do this and build something else. That is able to compete with the other newer casino's. He came close once or twice, but, the deal fell through. It is speculated that's the main reason for pardnering up with Donald Trump. The New Frontier also has a large amount of useable land around it. Example: like Trump Tower(s) that being built behind it.
The Stardust is considered also. To be a out dated casino. While nothing has been offically said(as far as I have heard)from the owners. It's age and the large amount of land around it. Makes it another prime casino to demolish and rebuild.
The Tropicana, has been putting off a major demolition and rebuild. For several years now. The start date keeps being pushed back. It could be because of money and/or board of directors decisions. Maybe someday this will finally happen.
In Las Vegas, you can never tell from day to day. Whats going to happen.
Dan
