Re: Newsletter Update
In Response To: Re: Newsletter Update ()

Walt,

First of all, the club did NOT take any "cost cutting measures to save money" this time in the production of the newsletter. We used the same Presort Standard Mailing Rate that has been used in the past. We did use a new mailhouse, but that was not to save money, simply a logistics issue of moving the newsletter from Reno to Southern California. The newsletters were mailed out on 9/6 and this postal rate it can take at least 14 days to get there. So, we are about a week past that 14 day window. We immediately looked into the problem when people stated they had not received them yet. Those that had not received them by yesterday were immediately emailed a copy so they no longer had to wait. Your statement is untrue and unfair.

Second, as far as "don't fix it if it ain't broke to save a few bucks". This also seems a bit misguided. We did nothing to save a buck or impact those that want to continue to receive it by postal mail. All we have done is offer a way for those that have the technology to receive it in a much quicker manner and enhanced format (color). So nothing was "fixed", it was simply an offer for those that can take advantage of it, and several have.

Third, I am honored to be serving with the new officers. They have lots of ideas and suggestions for new things. They were the ones who stepped in when we found out about Jack retiring from the editor's position to make sure we got the newletter together and out on time after the convention. As far as "all the plans for new things for memebers", all I can say is I am sorry I didn't quit my day job and get them all done for you in the first month in office. I did however spend a significant amount of that time trying to get the newsletter together and out on time. I look forward to working with this new board to implement some of their new ideas, and I am sure several of the more patient and understanding club members will appreciate it when we try to do some of those things.

Finally, you seem to have a lot of strong opinions, ideas and time to post them. Why not consider volunteering to be the new Editor. You can put some of that time and energy to good use. We are still looking for someone. Then next issue when you have so many complaints, you won't have far to send them. I know I am personally amazed at what Jack did, and I have new appreciation for those that contribute instead of complain.
