STOLEN IMAGES

O.K., I'm a newby strike collector and recent club member. I have seen a number of comments about stealing a strike image and possibly using it for fraud on feebay. If an image appears in an ad, and doesn't say copyright somewhere, is it illegal or improper to save that image for your own use? I sold a couple of Barbie dolls on feebay a couple years back and "borrowed" a picture from another auction of the same doll because it was much easier than using my outdated scanner or camera to capture the pic. Their pic was much better quality than I coud have ever gotten myself. I wasn't trying to cheat any customer and they got to see a better picture of the doll. I also collect occupied Japan items and often "grab" a picture of an auction item that I didn't get the high bid on or couldn't afford, to use for future reference at flea markets or real auctions. What do you think?
