John - If you saved the buyers email send it to ebay and this should get the fees for the sale refunded.

P.S. Did you check the buyers feedback to see if this has happened before or if the person has a record of canceling bids ? If so imform ebay of it and have them check his record, if you keep on ebay they will make a refund.
