The casino's will replace employees whenever they get a chance! I remember the 1st try at a "cashless" casino that failed in las vegas.
The problem is that there will be no more customer service! Gaming has been a customer orientated business until a few years ago. The manufacturers were prompted by the success of the VLC company "coinfree games" before Anchor got them.
The casinos will have a MAJOR expense retrofitting the current crop of older Bill acceptors to take the Ticket in as cash...(wait until the 1st scam!)If I recall, if you had the older acceptors, it cost $500 per game for one of the new ones!!! Of course manufacturers will be trying to get the casinos to just buy new games!!!!!
What you do not get to see is the behind the scenes count rooms that will now have to handle currency mixed in with vouchers...It will be expensive again to update the equipment.
The only plus i can see is now that casinos have cut staff anyway and you have to wait eons to be paid/fill....you will have faster response from the machine when wanting to be paid...
Additionally, most internal theft comes from employees taking money from the hopper when they open the door...this will go away should the cashless games take over!! That would also be good!
furthermore they would now eliminate a good portion of employee tips (tokes) since there would be no $$ moving around!!! If you didn't know, slot attendants make MAYBE $6.50-$9.00 per hour! No wonderthe business can't attract any talent...no where to go for these poor folk!
These are the same types that brought you ENRON!!! More people will be out of work etc, and you are right about the coins hitting the tray sound. They actually made the trays out of metal that reverberated when coins hit it sounding like more were coming out than actually were. Sorry for the venting but this was always a sore spot with me since the old guys who broke me into the Business always stressed service! I am glad I got out and now i am one of the old guys!
As I have been saying...American business has no idea how to make money anymore...they just CUT and make it look like they are making more! of course the next steps when they run out of cuts will be to select tighter programs for their games!
One of my mentors always said....No winners = no players....he worked for Bugsy Segal!!!
