It looks like it happened the same way the Flamingo tiger lost it's mint mark except you can still see a "ghost" A on this one. So far, we know of only the four won by my friend six months ago. All four are the same design which helps answer the riddle of whether the rims and insert are minted separately or as a unit. He also won six of the regular ones (same design) at that time that looked perfectly normal.
So far, it appears tourists got the others.
