Thanks everyone for all of your help. I now know that its Ok to clean a strike and I have the names of several different cleaners. I have decided against the foam rings - I mean if I dont even want air in there...! But now Jeff, you have brought up an interesting point. You say the brass tarnishes even when in an airtite case? Then why am I bothering?
