I believe 200 quarter pounders were minted and at the awards banquet following the tournament names of those who had entered the tournament were pulled from a "hat" and those people had the option of buying one of the additional quarter pounders.

I think that everyone there whose name was pulled bought an extra quarter pounder--in addition to the one awarded just for entering.

The cost, paid to the Las Vegas Club at that time, was $40 and when a name was pulled that person had the choice of any number still available.

To my knowledge, all of the additional quarter pounders were purchased there and then, for a cost of $40 apiece.
