O.K. Dennis, this is what I have gathered to possibly answer your question.
I have been getting a lot of information this weekend since I posted this topic. Much of it has been in bits and pieces and a few leads to follow up on, which I did. This is what I boil it all down to:
Giving Christie Gregory credit, she was the first to point out that in actuality there are about 11 different varieties of the Generic Colorado $28 silver strikes first described by the late Ben Kreigh. They are distinctly different from each other. For those of you who have these $28s, the most distinguishing feature to look for is to see if you have the fully reeded variety (three of the eleven are fully reeded) or the partially reeded variety (eight out of the eleven).
The fully reeded varieties range in price here locally from $100 to $500, obviously being the rarest. The partially reeded varieties go from $40 to $75 being the more common of the generic $28s.
There were 3 different varieties of "Colorado Central Station" $28s selling locally for about $50-$60 so they appear to be in about the same availability as the partially reeded generic $28s.
I spoke with a local lady who is a member of our club, has been around a long time and some of you have mentioned her to me before. Her name is Phillis and she lives in Denver and is quite knowledgeable about the local Silver Strikes. In her opinion, these $28s are gone and when they are completely depleted from a couple of peoples inventories they will be history. The only reason they are not as expensive as $28s in other venues is the collectors here saved enough of them to supply the demand up til now but in the future we could deplete the supply with all of the new collectors coming into the hobby. Also, being a higher priced coin than the $1 & $5 regular tokens or the $7 and $10 silver strikes she says less people collect them. I don't know if she was talking about locally or if she meant on a national level, I'm not sure.
Dennis Finn pointed out a "mule" - a hybrid of a Colorado and Deadwood $28. It has the Colorado Eagle on one side and Saloon #10 on the other. I hadn't heard a price valuation on it, perhaps Dennis or Christie will have an idea of it's value. A few others are looking for this one as well.
I hope this helps, it's a birdseye view of the information I am gathering and I hope those of you who know and keep up with these particular $28 silver strikes will agree with the synopsis I have gotten so far.
My Best,
Avram
