Peter; Nomination forms for SSOTY will be inserted into the 1st Quarter issue of the club magazine. Every club member in good standing at that time will be eligible to nominate up to 5 silver strikes, up to 5 tokens, and up to 5 chips that were issued during the calendar year 2001.
The web site that Jim Follis has set up are not official nominations. What Jim has done is to supply a place where collectors can publish strikes, chips and tokens that perhaps the rest of the collecting world has not seen .... and from those postings made by whomever wants to submit their favorites ... it might encourage others to submit their favorites so that everyone can decide which strikes (in this case) they may want to officially nominate when they receive their magazine.
For an example .... Joe Sixpack doesn't collect strikes from Reno and is not familiar with Reno strikes as he seldom sees them. However, Mary Jones on the other hand puts up a scan of a beautiful Reno strike that Joe Sixpack now becomes aware of. Joe Sixpack may in fact now nominate a strike that he has never previously seen for 2001 SSOTY honors along with four of his favorites. THAT is the purpose of Jim Follis' site. Hope to see more silver strikes images posted to Jim's pages. He's done a good job setting this up for our benefit. BTW: Jim is my Ass't Chairman this year ... and may wind up being my successor as Chairman for 2002.
