I just returned from a trip to see a buddy/business friend of mine and had the occasion to drop a fair amount of money in the silver strike machines at the airport. As I flew in and out of Reno I was able to play on several machines and in the end played a total of three machines. The machine that paid the best for me was on concourse C. I ended up with a total of eight blue strikes; one of these I actually bought off a "tourist" or non-collector who won one on $5.00 right after I got off the machine and invested who knows how many dollars. My average cost for each strike won from the machines was over $21 each. I had to win more than 40 silver strikes to collect the eight blue ones. Also I had the worst streak I have ever experienced on a silver strike machine; investing $120 and only winning TWO silver strikes.
Relative to all the recent comments on the Reno Airport Blues there is one other factor affecting the supply/demand issue that I did not see addressed. At least two machines are in concourses and only accessed by the flying public. Who knows how many blues will be won by non-collectors, taken home and thrown in a drawer or end up lost. There is no way us collectors will ever see 777 sets of the Reno blue silver strikes.
In the end I completed one set and am only short an N for the second set. I have a blue R to trade for a blue N if anyone is interested.
